What Does a Soul Have to do with Wholeness?

Before you assume I am going to recommend an embodied yoga or meditation practice, a guru quest, or religiously attend weekly church services, relax. I’m not. Regardless how those activities might be tremendously supportive for you.

However, does shortening treatment length, building tolerance for intense sometimes intolerable emotions (such as anger, fear, sadness, disgust), improving behavioral and cognitive results, allowing for greater physical, emotional and spiritual restoration, and even developing considerable growth from attachment wounds sound appealing? Seems sort of silly to ask, doesn’t it?

The connection with each other and to a deeper source of energy and resource (regardless what “source” you happen to place your faith, and even for those who don’t) when used in deliberate specific ways, can yield remarkable results. The beauty of ISP is that you don’t need to know, believe or think anything in particular for this method to succeed.

It’s from this inherent bridge building that Raja Selvam’s Integral Somatic Psychology was developed.

ISP is a spirit, mind body healing modality that taps into energy systems, chakras, Bodynamics, osteopathy, Polarity Theory, & quantum mechanics to radically create more wellness and growth in these bodies that carry us through rupture and stuckness.

Yes, please.

What I love about Somatic Experiencing are the attunement skills we learn about messages our bodies are sending us. These messages can often include finding aid and noticing how that assistance can settle the body.

But what SE doesn’t address is how the body defends against certain experiences in subtle ways we don’t catch because they are so small or because they trick us into believing we are calm and everything is fine.

Our organs or fascia might constrict or freeze in such a minute way we can’t detect it. A small exhale has the potential to prevent the body from being able to stay more fully with the experience of sadness, fear, anger or even joy. Sometimes settling is a way our bodies defend against experiences!

Tracking sensation in the body can also create for some, overwhelm. Overwhelm triggers a heart to race, shallow breath, exhaustion, dissociation, anger, fear, sadness, migraines or panic attacks.

Taking the pressure off tracking sensation means you can offer the body support in other ways and still allow the body to heal.

ISP taps into chakra and element energy systems to support and expand emotional experiences. These energy processes allow a connection with the subtle body (again regardless of your belief system) to create a deeper resonance with an emotion that might have caused tightness and suffering in the first place.

A trained ISP practitioner will help discern the differences and guide you gently through to find a new (old) way through.
