Being Ghosted

I had a case consult yesterday with a wonderfully intuitive and kind woman from Colorado. We met at an Integral Somatic Psychology training. She is qualified to meet one on one with newer graduates as we navigate towards more of the subtle details of the work related to broadening emotion in the body.

We talked of many things and I appreciaed her ISP lens. She reminded me how the space for navigating hard emotions is directly related to the volume of holding positive emotions and vice versa. She shared how surprised she was when she discovered that her ability to expand into joy and delight was more difficult than navigating helplessness, terror and shame. I recall noticing that same tendencies in my own body.

While this is not the first time I have been reminded of this truth, I recalled when my body is settled and calm that I have more access to curiosity and clarity. It’s like a fog lifts and I can see clearly again.

A song memory emerges: “I can see clearly now the rain has gone. I can see all obstacles in my way. Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind. It’s gonna be a bright bright sunshiny day.” The truth of those lyrics hit home even more.

We spoke about the voice over industry and I shared how a lot has changed in my personal business in the past several years. Sure AI is part of that change. I also get far more people (bots?) reaching out as fake clients. While I can spot warning signs earlier than I used to, they still get in. One reached out yesterday with convincing details including an NDA. It’s maddening and an opportunity for me to lean into more emotional work as I process and attempt to let it go.

But one of the hardest realities - which isn’t new I might add - is how I can send hundreds and hundreds of auditions and hear ZERO responses. It’s similar to living in a constant state of being ghosted. I mean, really.

It gives another opportunity to lean into the work of expanding emotion. I can’t say I love that it happens, but at least I can navigate to a different relationship with it. That’s powerful.

Having deep tools to sink into that can support this sense of vulnerability and powerlessness have been an incredible lifeline ot mental health and overall well being.

I am fully connected to my body before I step into my booth. I submit auditions when I have capacity. This capability gives me agency to be fully present and THAT helps me connect to copy and the underlying messages that help me serve the client better.
